Road tripping is a classic kiwi holiday activity. Get away from it all on long winding roads with good company or good music, go a little off track, and explore your own backyard this summer. In need of a holiday after a busy year, we found ourselves daydreaming and discussing our favourite road trips around the country- areas of ultimate escapism that inspire us, stunning sections of road, and heights and turns that make you say ‘wow’ out loud. Some personal spots that hold sentimental value in our hearts and memories include the otherworldly Desert Road, the drive from Turangi to Taupo around the lake with views ever more stunning as you come around each bend. Heading down south - the breath-taking blue of Lake Pukaki or the drive inland on SH8 and hitting the Lindis Pass. For a more rugged experience of bush, the Southern Alps, and glimpses of the Tasman Sea, explore ‘glacier county’ on the West Coast (SH6.) If you go far enough down, the Catlins is one of the most beautiful lesser seen parts of the south Island- meandering along the boardwalk is a must do!
