We’re excited to be working with City Harvest Food Rescue, who collect leftover food from businesses in the Christchurch area and give it to those in need. We were compelled by their mission:“To rescue quality surplus food and provide it to those in our community who are struggling to make ends meet and in so doing help create healthy and sustainable communities for tomorrow.” (from their website)
At Wishbone, part of our mission is innovation, and we are proud of our strong track record of finding and supporting similarly innovative Food Sharing organisations around NZ. We were the initial supporter of 'Kaibosh' in Wellington and Dunedin based ‘Foodshare’. We think its fantastic that we can support yet another food donation charity in the Christchurch region and continue to align Wishbone with other initiatives who are finding innovative ways to support the community. We’re trying to help all Kiwis throughout NZ eat well, regardless of restrictions: diet, time or otherwise. Sometimes that requires some 'outside the box’ innovation to help those who are in need to get a good meal. City Harvest allow us to expand that mission and provide good food to those in the Christchurch region who are restricted by their financial situation.
A little more about this wonderful organisation from the City Harvest Facebook page: “It is our goal to reduce the negative impacts of food waste on our environment by redistributing excess food; helping to create lasting positive social change by nourishing those in need. And it is not just providing food, it is providing community nourishment.” If you want to support City Harvest, you can find ways to do so by visiting their website https://www.cityharvestnz.org/
